Locating and Placing TMS Field Devices

Existing agency practices sometimes incorporate data to determine the locations of TMS field devices (for example through regional operations plans), but the process is not well defined. The data used varies by region/location and type of roadway and often the locations are chosen to fill a need while lacking an evaluation of the long-term costs and benefits of installing a device in the area. This project will develop data-driven methods to plan the location and placement of field devices and inform decisions on maintenance and repair activities to meet TMS and agency operational objectives.
